Race Overview
The Great North 5K is a Friday evening race that opens the Great North Run weekend in Newcastle and Gateshead. The flat, five-kilometre route starts and finishes on Newcastle's Quayside, passing the Tyne Bridge before crossing the Swing Bridge into Gateshead and returning via the Millennium Bridge. It draws large crowds along the riverside course and is promoted by organizers as a fast, PB-friendly race for first-time 5K runners.
