Race Overview
The Ellerbe Marathon is the oldest continuously held marathon in North Carolina, first run in 1992 in Ellerbe, Richmond County. Marathoners run a USATF-certified 13.1-mile loop of paved country roads twice, and the half marathon runs it once, with rolling to hilly terrain that includes the climb over Darkside Mountain. The start is on Page Street and the finish is on Sunset Avenue beside the Ellerbe Rescue Squad building, which serves as race headquarters. It is a Boston qualifier, and finishers receive handmade pottery wine cups from Seagrove, NC.
