The San Francisco Marathon is holding its biggest race ever. It boasts 6+ events over 5 distances from 5K to the Ultra double marathon. The marathon, which has been held since 1977, starts (and finishes) on the Embarcadero and includes an out and back over the Golden Gate bridge. Traditionally very temperate, the recent heat wave crossing the US does not seem to be affecting this weekends forecast - a good sign for runners.
The Course
The course loops 26.2 miles around the perimeter of the SF with a trip out and back over the Golden Gate bridge and, while hilly, drops below sea level at multiple points in the race. Check out the marathon’s course explorer to gauge where you’ll be when on the course based on your pace.

Overall, the stable weather of the west coast continues to hold up for ideal running conditions year round.
The forecast for 2023 is no different. The start of the race will be around 56º - a perfect temp to not need layers at the start but not be too hot that you’ll be running on the brink at the start of the race. Cloud cover this year will be low. While you won’t need it early on in the race, it’s important to apply sunscreen if you expect to be out on the course for 4 or more hours. The dew point is hovering between 52º and 56º which is in the mid-range for desired running conditions. It’s also great for spectators watching the SF marathon, which means more fans to cheer you on towards the finish line!
